Alfonso Caraveo

Staff Scientist at SABIC, Saudi Arabia

Biography

Dr. Alfonso Caraveo is a Staff Scientist in SABIC’s Corporate Technology and Innovation (T&I) division. He received his BS degree from Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), Chihuahua, Mexico in 2009 and MS and PhD degrees in Materials Science and Engineering, both from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia, in 2010 and 2013, respectively.

After graduation, he joined SABIC’s Corporate Research and Innovation Center as a Senior Scientist where he led projects of new materials and sensor development. In 2018, he joined The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) as a Research Scientist to lead the radiation sensors development efforts as well as the technology commercialization initiatives. In August 2023, Alfonso became a member of SABIC T&I Advanced Applications team within the Polymers and Materials Science Group. He is currently working on identifying and implementing corporate research strategy to expand and diversify SABIC’s polymers and chemicals portfolio in the market segment of Electrical and Electronics.

His publication record includes 14 granted patents, 28 patent applications, 25 journal publications and 2 book chapters. In 2020, he was awarded the National Researcher distinction to serve as a member of Mexico’s National Council of Science and Technology.
