Antonios Doufas

Biography

Antonios holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki as well as MS and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Antonios has 23 years of industrial experience in polymer research with short-, medium- and long-term horizon.  His areas of expertise include polymer structure-process-property relationships, rheology, polymer processing, flow-induced crystallization and math modeling.  Antonios is currently a Research Fellow at SABIC focusing on development of differentiated polyolefin products.  Prior to joining SABIC, Antonios held various senior technical leader and advisor positions in research and product/application development areas at Dow, Sunoco/Braskem and ExxonMobil. He led numerous product development efforts from conception to commercialization in the area of polyolefins including polypropylene, polyethylene, elastomer/plastomers and thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs).  Among others, Antonios led the development of new impact copolymer polypropylene platforms with differentiated property balance that resulted in commercialization for use in automotive, pipe and rigid packaging applications.  He also led the development of a new TPV platform with superior resiliency for replacement of thermoset EPDM rubber in light-weighting automotive components as well as new TPVs for use in durable pipes for Oil & Gas applications.  Antonios is co-inventor in 50 patent applications and co-author of 40 scientific publications as well as a book chapter on “Polyolefins” in the Springer Handbook of Petroleum Technology.
