Biography

Prof. Apostolos Avgeropoulos is a Full Professor at the Department of Materials Science Engineering (DMSE), University of Ioannina (UoI), Greece. He obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry from the Chemistry Department, University of Athens in 1992 and his Ph.D. in 1997 in Polymer Science from the same Department and University, under the supervision of Prof. N. Hadjichristidis in collaboration with Prof. E. L. Thomas at DMSE, MIT, USA. He was a post-Doctoral researcher at DMSE-MIT for a total of 16 months from 1997-2001 and a Post-Doctoral researcher at the Industrial Chemistry Laboratory, Chemistry Department, University of Athens and the National Center for Scientific Research “DEMOKRITOS” from 1999-2002.  He was elected as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at DMSE-UoI in 2002. In 2003, he started as non-tenured Assistant Professor, got tenure in 2007, promoted to Associate Professor in 2009 and in 2013, he became a full Professor in the same Department, where he continues his research in polymers science & engineering. His current research interests involve high molecular weight copolymers, amphiphilic functionalized block copolymers, nanocrystal/block copolymer composites (structure and structure properties), nano-lithographic and nano-patterning applications of block copolymers with various architectures, among others. He has supervised as a Faculty member 150 undergraduate diploma theses, 46 MSc and 15 PhD students. He is the Director of the Polymer Science & Engineering Laboratory of DMSE-UoI and the Scientific Responsible for the Electron Microscopy Facility of UoI. His overall funding from various agencies is approximately 7.0 MEuros. He has published 3 book chapters, 1 US patent (2 pending), 226 peer-reviewed publications up to date.
