Dana Al-Sulaiman

Biography

Dana Alsulaiman is an Assistant Professor of Material Science and Bioengineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) and the Principal Investigator of the BioMAD Lab, which focuses on developing advanced biomaterials and next-generation technologies for minimally-invasive disease diagnosis, monitoring, and personalized therapy. She also currently serves as Vice Chair or the Institutional Biosafety and Bioethics Committee at KAUST.

Dr Alsulaiman completed her Masters in Biomedical Engineering at Imperial College London in 2015. She finished top of her class and was awarded the ‘Centenary Prize’ and ‘Governor’s MEng Prize’ for demonstrating all-round excellence. She was then granted the prestigious President’s PhD Scholarship to support her doctoral studies in Bioengineering. In 2019, she moved to the USA to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship in the lab of Prof Patrick Doyle at MIT. Throughout her academic career, Dr Alsulaiman has received many prestigious international awards including the 2016 Bronze medal at the STEM for Britain national competition, the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Healthcare Technologies Award (2019), and most recently the MIT Technology Review’s Innovator’s Under 35 Award (2021).

Outside of academia, Dr Alsulaiman strives to support and promote innovation and scientific progress in Saudi Arabia and beyond through her involvement in outreach programs and renowned youth forums. She has recently led panel discussions on Sustainable Health at the Global Sustainable Development Congress convened by the Times Higher Education in May 2023.
