Subramaniam Ramakrishnan

Biography

Ramakrishnan completed his BSc from the University of Bombay, MSc from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay and received his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA in 1988. After a two-year postdoctoral stint at the Corporate Research Laboratory of Exxon Research and Engineering Company at Annandale, New Jersey, in 1990, he took up a faculty position in the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, where he first served as the Division Chairman of Chemical Sciences (2010-2016) and later as one of the Deputy Directors of the institute (2016-2018). He was awarded the prestigious S S Bhatnagar Prize for Chemistry in 2005 and was a J C Bose Fellow (2011-2021). He served as the President of the Society for Polymer Science-India (SPSI) from 2015-2022. His research interests are in the design and development of novel polymerization methods, hyperbranched polymers, polymerization in ordered media, internally functionalized porous polymers, reactive coatings, and conformational control in synthetic polymers. He was an Associate Editor of Chemical Communications (RSC) for a decade (2012-2022) and has served on the Editorial Board of Macromolecules, ACS Macro Letters and Polymer Chemistry.
