Luigi Cavallo is Professor of Chemical Science at KAUST, Saudi Arabia
Biography
Luigi Cavallo earned his PhD in 1991 at the University of Naples, Italy, under the supervision of P. Corradini. He completed his education in computational chemistry in the group directed by T. Ziegler, University of Calgary, Canada. He was appointed assistant professor of industrial chemistry at the University of Naples in 1994. In 2002 he moved as associate professor of industrial chemistry to the University of Salerno, and he joined the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in 2011. Understanding (and possibly solving) chemical problems using the armory of tools known as computational chemistry is his main activity. His areas of interest range from clarifying structure/function relationships in organometallic compounds to unraveling the mechanics of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts at work. He is not shy about tackling systems of biological interest. In all cases he tries to interact as much as possible with experimentalists. When unsatisfied with the available tools and/or models, he develops new ones.
