Jorge Gascon Appointed Director of KAUST Catalysis Center

01 October, 2017

Congratulations to Professor Jorge Gascon who has recently been appointed as Director of the KAUST Catalysis Center.

Professor Gascon is a globally recognized expert in chemical engineering and materials science with expertise overlapping the activities of both our Catalysis Center and Advanced Membranes and Porous Materials Center. His research is focused on the development and application of structured nanoporous materials in heterogeneous catalysis, adsorption and separation.

Prior to joining KAUST, Professor Gascon spent 11 years at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, where his profile as an expert in catalysis was quickly recognized by academic colleagues and the industry. In 2013, Professor Gascon received the ExxonMobil Chemical European Science and Engineering Award in recognition of his contributions to the field of separation techniques and separation modeling in petrochemistry and in particular for his work on the engineering of metal organic frameworks for gas separation. In the same year, he was also awarded research grants from the European Research Council and from the Netherlands Science Foundation (VIDI)—both highly competitive awards that fund the most innovative research ideas.

Professor Gascon has co-authored over 180 publications in peer-reviewed journals and several book chapters; he has also received six patents and edited the book "Metal Organic Frameworks as Heterogeneous Catalysts."
