Jorge Gascon Appointed Director of KAUST Catalysis Center

Professor Jorge Gascon​ has recently been appointed as Director of the KAUST Catalysis Center.​​

​​Professor Gascon is a globally recognized expert in ch​emical engineering and materials science with expertise overlapping the activities of both our Catalysis Center and Advanced Membranes and Porous Materials Center. His research is focused on the development and application of structured nanoporous materials in heterogeneous catalysis, adsorption and separation.

Catalytic teamwork transforms propane

A highly efficient catalyst that converts propane gas into heavier hydrocarbons has been developed by KAUST researchers. It significantly speeds up a chemical reaction known as alkane metathesis, which could be used to produce liquid fuels.

Prof. Basset inducted as a fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Inventors (NAI)

Jean-Marie Basset, KAUST distinguished professor of chemical science and director of the University's Catalysis Center, was officially inducted as a fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Basset was honored alongside a highly distinguished class of 2016 fellows during the Sixth Annual Conference of the National Academy of Inventors at the John F. Prof. Hadjichristidis receives national appointment

KAUST Distinguished Professor of Chemical Science Nikolaos Hadjichristidis has been appointed chair of the National Council for Science and Innovation of Greece. The National Council for Research and Technology (NCRT) is the supreme advisory body of the state for the formulation and implementation of the national policy for research, technology and innovation. The council is appointed by and reports directly to the minister of education.​
